The last couple of weeks have been amazing! Sure spending a couple of weeks in Spain would automatically make it a magical time, but that’s not it. It’s a big part of it, but it isn’t everything.
Just before I left, I joined the Pelican Travel Agency as the agency’s manager and travel consultant. If you aren’t impressed, you don’t know me too well. I have never been confused about what I want to do with my life, but making enough money to survive has always taken precedence. When I completed my ‘Travel & Conference Planning’ program at the Katherine Gibbs School in Montclair, there wasn’t a job to be found in the industry. I had relocated to Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Michigan and the area was more depressed than the rest of the nation (1991/1992). I found myself working behind a jewelry counter. My relocation to Florida a year later had me working a glorified secretarial position.
It really wasn’t until 2005 when I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University that I finally broke into the elusive industry promoting tourism to St. Lucie County Florida. I gained immeasurable experience and learned so much, but I still wasn’t doing any real travel.
I left them in 2008 to create Sage PR Firm specializing in the hospitality industry. Timing couldn’t have been worse and unfortunately by 2009 I had to get a new full time job. This job was not in the industry. This opportunity in July 2012 was long awaited!
There is still so much to do to get things going (web site, collaterals…), but I am so excited and I hope you are too!
